Howell, MI – Today, Speaker Nany Pelosi and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer would deliver the Democratic rebuttal to President Trump’s State of Union address. Below is a statement from Meghan Reckling, Chair of the Livingston County Republican Party:
“It is obvious by their choice that the Democrats believe Michigan will once again be a battleground state in the presidential election. Unfortunately, they are so distracted by their hyper-partisan impeachment efforts that they have failed to realize Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has not even been able to unify her own party since her election.”
“Whitmer could not even convince a member of her party in the legislature to sponsor her gas tax hike proposal, with Democratic leaders labeling her idea as “extreme.” As a result, she doubled-down and punished Michiganders including veterans, at-risk students, law enforcement officers, and our healthcare services.”
“Our nation and our state deserve better.”
